The elected members of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly will take oath of office today.
The oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected MLAs will begin at 11 am.
The newly-elected MLAs include 32 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 7 from the National People’s Party (NPP), 6 from Janata Dal (United), 5 each from the Congress and the Naga People’s Front (NPF), 2 from the KPA and 3 independents.
The state government yesterday appointed senior BJP leader Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh as the pro-tem speaker to administer the oath.

The Governor appointed Rajen as Protem Speaker and administered the oath at the Raj Bhawan Imphal yesterday morning in the presence of newly elected BJP legislators.
Notably, S. Rajen Singh has been appointed as the person before whom newly elected Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly shall make and subscribe an oath of affirmation until a Speaker of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly is elected.
In the recently concluded Manipur Assembly elections, the BJP won 32 seats out of 60.
