After introducing Aquaponics and Hydroponics, the Sikkim Agriculture department is now planning to introduce advanced drone technology in agriculture for the benefit of the farming community of Sikkim.
The drone technology is expected to significantly benefit aerial spraying purposes as it covers one acre of cultivated land within minutes, thereby saving both time and manpower.
Agriculture minister Lok Nath Sharma along with Agriculture secretary Rinzing C. Bhutia, director Sonam R. Bhutia, additional chief engineer J.K. Chettri, additional director Rajen Thapa, additional director (Horticulture) Suman Sharma and engineers from engineering cell witnessed a demonstration of drone sprayer at an agricultural land, at Radang on Tuesday.

After taking part in the demonstration, the Agriculture Minister informed that the State government, under the guidance of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, has been taking numerous initiatives to introduce technology in agriculture and allied sectors.
Sharma stressed on the advantages of amalgamation of technology like drones in agriculture for improving efficiency, productivity, crop yield and profitability for the farmers at large.
The Minister called FPOs, SHGs and cooperatives to come forward and prepare a strategic plan in order to benefit the farmers.
