The demand for the removal of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Chief Executive Member (CEM) continues to escalate with protesters being held in various parts of Garo hills today.
Amid this reports are doing rounds that CEM Rakesh Sangma, who has been accused by pressure groups of not following Garo customs, will put down papers on Monday.
If this happens, it will come as a big setback to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma who had recently backed the appointment of Rakesh Sangma as the CEM stating that he has been democratically elected.
It may be noted that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has also been at the receiving end with protesters showing the CM black flags at Ampati yesterday over the CEM issue.
The pressure groups in Garo Hills have accused Rakesh Sangma of not following Garo customs since his father came from the Nepali community. The pressure groups in Garo Hills are organising a series of protests demanding his resignation. They also rejected the request for suspension of agitation till the time a decision is taken on the issue.
