Speculations are rife that the Centre may take a final call on the Assam, Meghalaya border issue soon after elections to the 5 states are over.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that the state government is awaiting a call from the Centre for deliberations on the final decision to the border issue on 6 areas with Assam.
Sangma said that concerned agencies are carrying out further surveys to finalize the demarcation of boundary between both the states. Chief Minister Sangma hopes that the Centre will invite him to seal the final deal soon.
Both Assam and Meghalaya have submitted the recommendations of the regional committees to the Union Home Ministry earlier. The centre has now asked the Survey of India to inspect the areas of difference following which the process of demarcation might ensue.
