Showcasing the colourful tradition and rich legacy of the past, the Oriah festival is being observed by the people of the Wancho community at Longding in Arunachal Pradesh.
Joining the Oriah festival at Longding in the Wancho heartland, Chief Minister Pema Khandu lauded the Wanchos for preserving their indigenous culture and tradition in its true form for generations.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu also made a fervent appeal to the youths of the state to come forward and actively take part in the protection of their age-old tradition and culture.

Oriah is the most important festival of the Wancho community and marks the advent of spring.
It is usually celebrated during the first half of the lunar month.
Different rituals are performed during the festival before a sacred bamboo post with seven branches that is erected during the festival.
The festival aims at the protection, preservation and promotion of the rich tradition which have been inherited from the ancestors.
During the festival, villagers exchange bamboo tubes of rice beer as a symbol of greeting and goodwill. Both men and women wear traditional costumes and participate in singing and dancing.
