Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conferred the prestigious Assam Baibhav award to noted industrialist and chairman of Tata Group, Ratan Tata in Mumbai today.

Chief Minister Sarma presented Assam’s highest civilian award to Ratan Tata at the Taj Wellington Hotel.

The Assam government had recently awarded the Assam Saurav and Assam Gaurav awards to few personalities who have made remarkable contributions to the society. The Assam Baibhav is the highest among those civilian honours.

 Assam for the first time presented these awards for the 1st time in 2022 on January 24 in a function held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

Ratan Tata had earlier conveyed his inability to join the award ceremony due to his ill health expressing hope that it could be done on a later date.

The Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government had decided to conferres the presitigious Assam Baibhav award to the noted industrialist and philantrophist in recognition of his landmark contributions to the health care sector of Assam especially  Cancer care. As per the latest figures, Assam and the Northeast has one of the highest instances of cancer in the country.
