Manipur Polls: Independent MLA Ashab Uddin joins JD (U)

With less than a month left for the Assembly elections in the state, Independent MLA from Jiribam Ashab Uddin resigned as an MLA and joined the Janata Dal (United) yesterday.

With less than a month left for the Assembly elections in the state, Independent MLA from Jiribam Ashab Uddin resigned as an MLA and joined the Janata Dal (United) yesterday.

Ashab Uddin joined the party in presence of JDU National President Rajiv Ranjan in Imphal.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan, who was suspended from the Congress party, also joined the JDU in the presence of Lok Sabha MP and JDU Manipur in-Charge Ramprit Mandal.

Both Ashab Uddin of Jiribam and  Joykishan seem set to contest in JDU ticket now.

A formal reception ceremony is set to be held today for both the new members to be attended by JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan.

Assembly elections in Manipur for a total of 60 Assembly constituencies will be held in two phases. Voting for the first phase will be held on February 27 while voting for the second phase will be on March 3.

The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
