Manipur Polls: National People’s Party releases 1st candidate list

The National People’s Party released its first list of candidates today. As many as 20 candidates have been named in the first list, with 18 set to contest valley seats.

The National People’s Party released its first list of candidates today. As many as 20 candidates have been named in the first list, with 18 set to contest valley seats.

Manipur deputy chief minister Y Joykumar Singh, who will run from the Uripok assembly constituency, is one of the key candidates. Besides, L Jayanta Kumar Singh and N Kayisii are some of the other key candidates who will contest the elections from Keishamthong and Tadubi assembly constituencies, respectively.

Meanwhile, the NPP has fielded Lunkhopao Haokip from the Chandel seat after sitting party MLA and minister in the N Biren Singh cabinet, Letpao Haokip, joined the BJP in December last year.

Meanwhile, out of these 20 seats, 18 are in the valley while 2 are in the hills, namely Chandel and Tadubi. In 2017, the BJP won 13, the NPP 4, LJP 1, and Congress bagged 2 seats out of these 20 constituencies for which the NPP has released its first candidate list.

Well, it needs to be mentioned that the NPP intends to fight for 40 seats in the impending polls.
