Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met his Nagaland counterpart Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in Guwahati today. During the meeting, both leaders spoke on various issues pertaining to the two states as well as the Northeast. The meeting was also attended by Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and former Chief Minister TR Zeliang.
Informing about the meeting, Chief Minister Sarma wrote on his Twitter “Had a fruitful meeting with Honourable Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio ji on issues of mutual interest, people’s welfare in both states, and strengthening our friendship.”
Meanwhile, talking on the border row with Nagaland, Chief Minister Sarma said that right now it is important to maintain the status quo between both sides. He informed that the status quo needs to be maintained till the verdict on the matter comes from the Supreme Court.
It is to be noted that Assam and Nagaland have already signed an agreement reducing armed presence along the interstate border after Himanta Biswa Sarma took over the reins as Chief Minister.
