In a remarkable feat, Maiba villagers in Senapati District, constructed an 8-kilometer road without any assistance from the Government. The village which did not have a motorable road is now connected to the Maram-Phaibung state highway.

On completion of the road and to declare 100 percent household water tap connection under Jal Jeevan Mission the villagers observed a “Thanksgiving Day”.

With no major developmental project relating to the improvement of road connectivity to Maiba, the villagers decided to start constructing the road with humble donations from well-wishers of the village as well as outside the village.

With a total donation of 21 lakhs from different donors, the road was constructed between November and December last year.

Maiba village has not been properly connected with the rest of the adjoining villages. Road connectivity facility taken up under PMGSY program has not reached the village till date. As a result, all economic activities of the village have been cut off leading the village to remain economically backward.

Having experienced the misery in travelling over the dilapidated road condition for long, a committee called “Maiba Road Development Committee” was constituted to see into the construction works. It may be worth mentioning here that vaccination drive to the village was also delayed for inaccessibility of road connectivity to the village the previous year.
