Assam-Meghalaya Border issue: Assam to hold all-party meet on January 18

An all-party meeting will be held in Assam on January 18th to discuss the inter-state border talks with Meghalaya. The reports submitted by the three regional committees led by ministers Atul Bora, Chandramohan Patowary and Pijush Hazarika will be discussed during the meet. Speaking about the meeting  Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hoped that disputes in a majority of the 6 areas of differences between Assam and Meghalaya taken up in the first phase will be resolved soon.

It may be mentioned that following a crucial meeting between the Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya in Guwahati earlier this week, ministers from both states informed that all efforts will be made to ensure that a final agreement on the majority of the 6 areas of dispute taken up in the first phase is reached at before January 21st which is the 50th statehood day of Meghalaya.

The Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya are slated to meet soon in a few days. After which a final report is to be prepared. Both the CMs will then meet Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi before the final agreement.
