In a bid to further strengthen the Assam Police from its core, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is chairing an all-important conference of the Superintendent of Police or SPs of all districts at the Zaloni CLub in eastern Assam’s Duliajan.

Addressing the conference, Chief Minister Sarma touched upon various issues, starting from tackling militancy to zero-tolerance against criminals and economic offenders.

CM Sarma stressed that the Assam Police has to redefine its role completely by becoming people-oriented. “We have to stand along with people, we have to stand with the people”, he reiterated.

He made it clear that offenders have to be taken head-on. “Criminals cannot be our friends, economic offenders cannot be our friends,” he said.

He also emphasized the need of augmenting the quality of investigation by using high-end technology.

The meeting is being attended by Cabinet Ministers Atul Bora, Bimal Borah, Sanjay Kishan, and Union Minister Rameshwar Teli, in addition to Assam DGP Bhaksarjyoti Mahanta and Special DGP GP Singh, among others.

Additionally, General Officer Commanding 4 Corps Lt. General Robin Khosla and AOC of Eastern Air Command Air Marshall DK Patnaik are also present at the conference.

Worth mentioning here, Chief Minister Sarma had chaired the first SPs conference in Kaziranga around June last year. Following the conference, Chief Minister Sarma had announced that such meetings will be held every six months to check the progress of decisions taken.
