Sikkim Chief Minister P.S. Golay has hoped that 2022 will be the year of health and happiness even as the threat of the Coronavirus still looms.
CM Golay, extending his New Year greetings to the people of Sikkim, said “As we bid farewell to 2021, a year filled with challenges emerging from the pandemic, I believe 2022 will be different.”

Chief Minister is emphasized that the government is focused on the future and creating new avenues for the youth.
“Despite the pandemic, Sikkim was able to accomplish numerous feats, and all this was possible due to the cooperation of the Sikkimese people and their efforts. Moving forward, our government is focused on the future, creating new avenues for our youths and increasing opportunities for everyone. Sadly, we also lost numerous individuals last year, and once again, I pray that their soul rests in eternal peace.”
Further, he added to collectively welcome the New Year and recommit to the values of respect, honesty, and compassion, and put the state first to build a brighter tomorrow for everyone. CM Golay has also appealed to everyone to stay safe and follow COVID-19 guidelines.

Sikkim has already issued new Covid-19 restrictions to be implemented from January 10. Pubs, cinema halls, restaurants, bakeries, gymnasiums, and all other commercial establishments shall operate with a maximum of 50% capacity. The restrictions comes at a time the Tourism sector of the state was limping back to normalcy after covid induced lockdowns.
