The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union(AAPSU) has toughened its stand on the Chakma-Hajong issue. Speaking to Northeast Live the AAPSU has made it clear that it would not be a mere spectator if the Pema Khandu led state government cancels the process of conducting a census of the Chakma Hajong community.
The AAPSU statement comes after a complaint was filed with the Prime Minister’s Office by the Chakma Development Foundation of India, alleging racial profiling of the Chakma Hajongs through the alleged exclusive census.
Talking to Northeast Live, AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai said that the CDFI is trying to derail the process initiated by the state government to resolve the protracted Chakma Hajong issue.
Tobom Dai alleged that the CDFI is interfering in the internal affairs of the state and that the census is a routine administrative exercise. Dai said that the state government should not succumb to any kind of pressure or malicious tactics.
The AAPSU general secretary hoped that the state government will listen to the demands of the indigenous people. The AAPSU leader further said that the state government must give an apt reply to the PMO as to why the indigenous people of the state are seeking a census of the Chakma Hajong community.
