Unperturbed by TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee’s secheduled visit to Meghalaya later this month, Cabinet Minister and Senior UDP leader Lakhmen Rymbui said, he is hopeful that these new developments would prove beneficial for the UDP in the up-coming elections.

The legislator from Amlarem said that since India is a democratic country, any party has the right to set up their party office anywhere in the country.
However, Rymbui said that the popularity of the Opposition has been affected as many leaders had already defected to the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) especially in the Garo hills region.

He also added that nothing can be taken for granted in politics and he is uncertain whether the split in Congress would further affect other political parties in the state or not.
