Fresh cases in Karnataka and Telangana have pushed India’s Omicron variant tally to 87. While Karnataka recorded five cases, neighbouring Telangana added four fresh cases of the new variant on Thursday. Delhi also reported four new cases.

Out of the five fresh cases in Karnataka, four are male patients and one female in the age group of 19-70 years. These include a 19-year-old male returning from the UK, a 36-year-old male returning from Delhi, 70-year-old female returning from Delhi, 52-year-old male returning from Nigeria and a 33-year-old male returning from South Africa. Even the country’s first case of the Omicron variant was reported in Karnataka on December 2.

On the other hand, Telangana detected 4 new cases of Omicron, of which 3 patients had returned from Kenya. The fourth person is of Indian origin. The total number of infections of the new variant has now risen to 6 in the state.

Till now, the variant has been detected in Maharashtra, having the highest number of cases that is 32. It is followed by Rajasthan with 17 cases, Delhi with 10 cases, Karnataka with 8 cases, Telangana 6, Kerala 5, Gujarat 5, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Chandigarh with 1 case each.
