Tripura bank employees join nationwide protests against privatisation

Protesting against the Union Government’s plan to privatise public sector banks in the country, members of the Tripura state committee of the United Forum of Bank Unions, demonstrated a protest

Protesting against the Union Government’s plan to privatise public sector banks in the country, members of the Tripura state committee of the United Forum of Bank Unions, demonstrated a protest procession in Agartala on Wednesday.

The protestors consisting of staff and officials of various nationalised public sectors protested against the privatisation of banks.

Sanjay Datta, a member of the All India Bank Officers Confederation, Tripura said that the government wants to pass the Banking Regulation Amendment Bill 2021 in the ongoing winter session of Parliament, paving the way for privatisation.

He viewed that it is a threat to both the bank staff and as well as depositors.

Datta added that against this move the United Forum of Bank Unions, an umbrella body of nine unions and around eight lakh bank staff pan India has called a two-day nationwide strike on December 16 and 17, in protest against the government’s plan to privatise banks.
