In a tragic incident, six people were killed and 11 others were injured when a pick-up truck carrying them slipped down into a gorge near Rabung village in east Mizoram’s Khawzawl district yesterday.
The terrifying accident which took place at a spot nearly 80kms from Mizoram’s capital Aizawl occurred at around 9.30 am.
According to reports, the pick-up truck carrying at least 19 people was heading towards Rabung to attend a funeral when the incident occurred.
Four persons died on the spot, while another two succumbed to their injuries at Rabung Public Health Centre.
The deceased have been identified as F. Laldinga (56), Lalsawta (54), Zahliri (47), Zonunsangi (45), Lalruatkimi (40), and Labuatsaihi.
As per the initial investigation, a failure in the braking system of the vehicle was most likely the cause of the accident.
