The prime accused behind forging of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s signature was arrested in New Delhi on Sunday. The mastermind, Imran Shah Chaudhary, who has been on the run will be brought to Guwahati on a transit remand.

The accused had planned the act to bag a government contract under the Jal Jeevan Mission of Assam Government.

Two others involved in the case, Rajib Kalita and Dilip Das were also arrested on Saturday. Kalita was arrested at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on his arrival from New Delhi while the latter was picked up from the city.

Earlier, the Chief Minister’s Office had filed an FIR with the Dispur police station on September 8 stating that Sarma’s signature was forged in a note given to the Chief Engineer of Public Health Department (PHE), Water, for allotment of work.

Following the registration of case, an investigation began and within a few hours, police picked up four persons associated with the forgery.

Meanwhile, two more accused, Anupam Chaudhary and Prakash Basumatary are still absconding.
