Schools and colleges reopened in Meghalaya on Wednesday under strict COVID-19 protocols. This is for the first time in almost 5 months that educational institutes have opened in the state.
The State govt recently decided to allow the schools to partially reopen issuing certain protocols for schools to follow, after which institutions reopened for students. The move comes following recommendations made by the State education department.
As per decisions made in the cabinet meeting last week, all schools, private and public reopened in urban and rural areas, whereas in the urban areas, online classes would continue for classes 1 to 5, school visits for classes 6 to 8 and on-campus classes for students of classes 9 to 12.
In the rural areas, school visits would be allowed for classes 1 to 5 and on-campus open classes for students of classes 6 to 12.
All colleges in the urban and rural also reopened in keeping with safety protocols, even as teachers have been urged to get themselves vaccinated against the virus.
Meanwhile, in a bid to boost the state’s economy the Meghalaya government has decided to open it’s doors to travellers following recommendations from the tourism department.
However, a number of conditions have been laid down by the government for the entry of tourists which includes strict following of COVID-19 protocols.
According to the government’s protocol for tourists entering Meghalaya, all travelers will have to mandatorily register on the Meghalaya Tourism app and generate an e-invite. The e-invite can also be generated using the Meghalaya Tourism website.
The protocol further states that all visitors above 18 years of age should be vaccinated with both doses. For those who are not vaccinated, a negative certificate of Covid test taken not less than 72 hours ago should be produced at the entry gates located in different parts of the State.
Given the prevailing situation, the protocol states that tourists even though fully vaccinated but having symptoms should avoid travelling to the State.
