Surrendered Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) leader Chesterfield Thangkhiew has been reportedly killed in an encounter with Meghalaya police in the early hours of Friday.
As per police sources, a joint team of East Jaintia Hills police and East Khasi Hills police raided the residence of the surrendered HNLC leader in connection with the blast at Iew Shillong market, Laitumkhrah on August 10.
Sources informed that Thangkhiew had tried to attack the police team when they entered his house, adding that the police started to open fire.
Later, the former HNLC general secretary was shifted to the Shillong Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
