In a major development to Tripura’s indigenous tribal politics, former Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) MLA Brishketu Debbarma joined the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) on Thursday.

Debbarma, who recently resigned from the party and the Assembly, joined the Tipra Motha in presence of Tipra Motha chief and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Dev Barman.

The Simna constituency MLA had tendered his resignation to the assembly speaker and also Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and IPFT president NC Debbarma.

Brishketu Debbarma joined the Tipra Motha in front of Pradyot Manikya Dev Barman who welcomed into the party fold. Pradyot, while addressing the crowd, stated that Tipra Motha was now emerging as the dominant power among the indigenous tribal politics of the state.

Welcoming the MLA to his party, Deb Barman said that the TIPRA would contest in all the 60 assembly seats, instead of 20 reserved for the Scheduled Tribes (ST), if the demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’ is not accepted by the state.

The TIPRA chief further said that the TIPRA would contest the elections and their MLAs would raise the demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’ in the state assembly in Agartala.
