Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday informed that a decision on closing down educational institutions and hostels in Guwahati will be taken by the Kamrup (M) district administration if the daily caseload in the city touches 1,000-mark.
“In case the daily case rate in Guwahati Metro touches 1,000, the district administration has been authorized to take a decision to close down educational institutions and hotels,” said Sarma.
“All including – schools, colleges and Universities will be closed. Hostels would be directed to vacate,” added Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Minister added that a decision on holding of HSLC, HSSLC and other examinations, scheduled to be held next month, would be taken after reviewing COVID-19 situation post May 2.
Sarma further informed that a 7-day home quarantine has been made compulsory for all people travelling to Assam. However, the government officials and those traveling for medical reasons, and people with bereavement cases shall be exempted.
Meanwhile, Assam has registered 1,665 fresh COVID-19 positive cases today, out of 62,107 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
A total of 674 cases were detected in Kamrup Metro alone. The overall positivity rate in the state stands at 2.68 percent.
In the wake of the alarming surge in COVID-19 cases, and to execute vaccination programme in State, the Assam government has planned to procure 1 crore doses of Covaxin so that a maximum number of people can be administered vaccines.
It may be mentioned that the Assam government on Tuesday announced free COVID-19 vaccination of all people between the age of 18 and 45 from May 1.
Earlier, the state government issued fresh guidelines on the closure of market places, super markets, shops in malls and weekly markets by 6 PM.
The state government has also ramped up COVID-19 testing facilities by setting up screening centres in every ward of the city.
