Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated a year-long Golden Jubilee celebration of Manipuri Cinema at the auditorium of the State Film Development Society in Imphal on Friday to mark the release of the first Manipuri feature film ‘Matamgi Manipur’ on this day in the year 1972.

Biren Singh also unveiled a monolith of Manipuri Cinema and inaugurated SN Chand Cine Archive and Museum as part of the occasion.

Deputy Chief minister Yumnam Joykumar, noted filmmakers from Assam Manju Borah and Founder Director of Film Heritage Foundation-Mumbai Shivendra Singh Dungarpur were among dignitaries who attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, Biren Singh said that the Government had taken up certain steps for the welfare and development of Manipuri Cinema by introducing Manipur State Cine Policy 2020 and setting up a Commission for follow up procedures.

Pioneer film makers including Debkumar Bose who is the director of the ‘Matamgi Manipur’ was also felicitated in the event. Various seminars and workshops also have been lined up for the day.
