Senior BJP leader and Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Kamakhya temple atop Nilachal hills in Guwahati to take blessings from the goddess before he files nomination today.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP candidate for Jalukbari constituency in the Assam assembly elections prayed at the famous Shakti Peetha along with his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.

The minister was accorded a grand welcome by his supporters on his arrival at the Devalaya.

Earlier in the morning, he also visited Doul Govinda Mandir at North Guwahati.

Sarma will file his nomination papers today at Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner’s office at Panbazar in Guwahati. He will lead a grand rally from Sonaram HS School field to the DC office.

Along with thousands of party workers and supporters, several political echelons will accompany Sarma while filing his nomination.

Meanwhile,  the NEDA convener expressed his gratitude to the people of his constituency and sought their blessings as he gets ready to file the papers.

“Jalukbari has always been kind & generous to me. As I get ready to file my nomination once more from this constituency today, I take a bow in gratitude and seek people’s blessings,” Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.

Jalukbari will go to the polls in the third phase on April 6. Today is the last day of filing nomination papers for the third phase.
