The Assam government on Friday revoked its February 18 circular discontinuing COVID-19 tests on arrivals at airports and railway stations in the state from March 1 and decided to continue with the tests mandatorily.
In a circular issued yesterday by the state health department, it has been cited that since COVID-19 is stated to be on a gradual increasing trend in several states and since the vaccination process has just started and it would take some time to inoculate a large section of people, the mandatory tests would continue in the state.
As per latest report, testing at airport and railway stations in Assam will continue until further orders.
The circular also mentioned the discovery of a new strain of Covid in parts of the country, and said it would be essential to continue precautions to contain spread of the dreaded virus in the state.
The state has also witnessed a spate in the number of positive cases over the past couple of weeks.
Further, the concerned district administration or Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme officials will ensure that contact tracing protocol is strictly adhered to.
Meanwhile, the Central government has decided to extend the ban on international commercial flights till March 31. An announcement to this effect was made by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
