The Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU) has reacted strongly against the government’s decision to replace the Hill Area Development (HAD) department by the Sixth Schedule Area Department (SSAD) in Assam.

Addressing the media the Dimasa Students Union appealed Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to reconsider the decision to replace the Hills Area Department with the SSAD.

DSU General Secretary, Pramith Sengyung stated that replacing of HAD with the SSAD is a scheme, intended to disrupt the welfare of the remaining hill district of Assam.

He added the decision is against the interest of the Hill Tribe people and it is a part of the larger design to politically exterminate Karbi, Dimasa and other Hill tribe people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

Under the Sixth Schedule Area Department, the HAD department including Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Districts will be merged with Bodo Territorial Regions.

Earlier on Thursday, the Assam Cabinet, chaired by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal approved the establishment of Bodoland and 6th Schedule Areas Administrative Staff College.
