United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) Chief Pramod Boro, who was trailing behind in the Koklabari constituency has won the seat by a margin of 3,734 votes.

While Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) is taking the lead with 17 seats, the BJP and UPPL are at a tie now with 11 seats each.

Meanwhile, BR Ferenga defeated BPF second-in-command Kampa Borgoyari, in Chirang-Duar constituency in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election. UPPL’s Sanjay Swargiary also won the Harisinga constituency in Udalguri district.

In the race to come to power in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), with no party looking to cross the halfway mark on its own, BTC could witness a coalition rule for the first time.

The election is seen as a semi-final before the assembly polls due in the state in March-April next year.

Counting of votes to the 40 seats in the council, which administers four districts Kokrajhar, Chirang, Udalguri and Baksa began at 8 am on Saturday.

Voting for the BTC election had taken place in two phases on December 7 and December 10.
