The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has questioned the State Election Commission’s decision to hold the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections.

The SEC had on Thursday announced that the panchayat and municipal polls would be simultaneously held in the state on December 22, after a delay of almost 2 years.

The AAPSU in a representation submitted to the SEC has demanded to reconsider its decision to hold the polls next month in context with the rising Covid cases in the state.

Speaking to Northeast Live, AAPSU president Hawa Bagang said that the election should be conducted next year when the government will be able to provide coronavirus vaccine for all.

The students’ union has also questioned the non-completion of the electoral procedure depriving the existing voter list of Panchayat and Municipal electoral of 2013.

Bagang also questioned over the non-Arunachalis residing in Vijoynagar area under Changlang district on their electorates, stating that it is illegal. He said that non-Arunachalis doesn’t have the right to vote.
