Manipur bypolls: BJP wins Wangjing Tentha and Saitu seat

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been declared winner from the Wangjing Tentha and Saitu Assembly seat in Manipur on Tuesday.

BJP’s Paonam Brojen Singh bagged the Wangjing Tentha seat by securing 1,560 votes more than his rival Moirangthem Hemanta Singh of the Indian National Congress. While Ngamthang Haokip won the Saitu seat by 6,469 votes.

Earlier, BJP candidate Oinam Lukhoi Singh also won the bypoll to the Wangoi seat in Manipur.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter to inform about the BJP’s victory in all four Assembly constituencies.

A huge day for @BJP4Manipur! We won 4 out of 5 seats – @BJP4Manipur contested only in 4 ACs- in #Manipur Assembly Bypoll. Once again the people of Manipur show their trust in principles & ideology of @BJP4India & leadership of Hon’ble PM, Shri @narendramodi ji,” Biren Singh tweeted.

BJP secured victory in all four Assembly constituencies – Wangoi, Lilong, Wangjing Tentha and Saitu, out of the total five seats, in which by-polls were held, on Tuesday.

The by-polls held on November 7 were necessitated after Congress MLAs of these four seats resigned from the assembly and joined the ruling BJP. The BJP has contested in three seats and supported an independent candidate in Lilong.
