In a major boost to the agriculture sector in Assam, the state government on Monday tied up with Israel for cooperation in the field of agriculture.

An Israeli delegation led by Ambassador of Israel to India, Dr Ron Malka called on Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at his residence and held a discussion on various issues beneficial for both Israel and Assam. Malka is on a day’s visit to Guwahati.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal ceremonially laid the foundation stone of Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Protected Cultivation at Khetri near Guwahati in presence of the Israeli Ambassador.

“It is indeed a special day for the people of Assam, especially for the farmers, as we have laid the foundation stone of the Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Protected Cultivation at Khetri,” Chief Minister Sonowal tweeted after the foundation stone laying ceremony.

The Assam CM expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the initiative and boosting Indo-Israel relations to newer heights.

“On behalf of the people of Assam, I convey gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodi Ji and the Govt of Israel for this initiative. We anticipate deepened cooperation between Assam and Israel in the fields of agriculture, tourism, startups, etc for mutual growth and development,” Sonowal said in another tweet.
