Assam Congress on Friday expelled two of its leaders from the party, sitting MLA Rajdeep Gowala and ex-MLA Rumi Nath for alleged ‘anti-party’ activities. The former MLAs have been expelled for a period of six years.
“The Congress president has approved the proposal of the expulsion of Rajdeep Gowala, MLA, Assam, from the party for a period of six years for indulging in anti-party activities,” KC Venugopal, AICC general secretary (Organisation), said in a statement.a
Gowala is a party MLA from Lakhipur in Barak Valley of the state.
This has come as a shock to the Congress unit in the Barak Valley ahead of the state assembly elections next year.
The core committee of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee levelled charges of anti-party activities and accused them of colluding with the BJP.
Both MLAs have been expelled from the primary membership of the party.
