At a time when the country’s COVID-19 death toll has crossed the one million mark, one state continues to maintain its ‘no covid fatalities’ status.

The northeastern state of Mizoram remains the only state in the entire country not to have reported a single Covid related casualty so far.

Hailing it as a great achievement of the state machinery, Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana attributed the success to the relentless service provided by the state’s medical fraternity, besides also being the only state where local task forces have been formed at the village level.

Stating that Mizoram at present only has 238 active cases as compared to a total of 1,910 people who have been treated and discharged, the health minister added that this indeed is an amazing feat by the state health workers.

Allaying fears that the state is facing a shortage of hospital beds, Lalthangliana stated that the state govt has adopted a contingency plan under which more than 2,500 patients can be admitted at Covid Care Centres.
