The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country on Thursday reached 15,83,792 after a single-day spike of 52,123 positive cases, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
With 775 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total cases include 5,28,242 active cases and 10,20,582 cured/discharged cases.
India recorded the biggest surge in number of fresh cases on Wednesday, breaching the 52,000 mark for the first time.
So far, India has recorded 15,83,792 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 34,968 deaths. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state including Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat with the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 64.5 percent. Globally, there have been over 1.68 crore confirmed cases of COVID-19. More than 6.59 lakh people have died so far.
The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to July 29 is 1,81,90,382 including 4,46,642 samples tested yesterday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
