Medical teams monitoring tourists amid coronavirus scare in Assam

Adding to the concerns of the health authorities in Assam, a number of foreign tourists are still camping in different resorts and homestays in and around the Kaziranga National Park.

Two separate medical teams comprising of specialist doctors are on ground to constantly monitor the health condition of the tourists and take appropriate steps if detected with COVID-19 symptoms, informed Bokakhat SDO Vivek Shyam.
In view of the coronavirus threat, authorities have also postponed the Kaziranga Festival.
Authorities are keeping a close watch on different areas where the COVID-19 affected US tourist had travelled in Kaziranga. The US national had also spent two nights in the National Park.
7 tourists from Europe have been sent back from Majuli following which they headed to Neematighat and undergone medical tests, where a medical team also monitored the health of passengers and crew members of the MV Mahabaahu Brahmaputra cruise ship.
Meanwhile, a medical team also visited Thengal Manor resort at Jalukonibari in Jorhat district where the Coronavirus affected tourist had spent a night in Room No. 1 of the resort.
The resort’s staff have been placed in isolation and the health team is constantly monitoring their health status.
