Former speaker of Assam Legislative assembly Pranab Kumar Gogoi breathed his last on Monday at a private nursing home in Guwahati. He was 84.
Gogoi was the Congress MLA from Sivasagar Legislative constituency and was also a cabinet minister during the Congress regime, led by Tarun Gogoi.
He was elected to Assam Legislative Assembly for four consecutive terms since 2001.
Gogoi was born in 1936 in Dibrugarh and was the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016.
Meanwhile, leaders across the political spectrum condoled the death of the senior Congress leader.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed their grief over the former speaker’s sudden demise.
Saddened at the news of the demise of Pranab Gogoi, former Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. He leaves behind a rich legacy of public service. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
