Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) In-charge of Assam.
As per reports, incumbent DGP Kuladhar Saikia, who was on a three-month extension, ending is set to retire tomorrow, November 30.
A 1988 batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Mahanta is currently serving as Additional Director General of Police, border.
He earlier served as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries. A dynamic officer, Mahanta was the key person behind Assam Police’s Project ‘Aaswas’ that dealt with children affected by violence across the state.
