The Sikkim Subject Committee will approach the Speaker demanding disqualification of the 12 MLAs from the SDF, who recently had switched sides to the BJP and SKM. The organisation said that at present Sikkim is witnessing a democratic crisis.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Vice-Convenor of the Sikkim Subject Committee said that the 12 MLAs have betrayed the people’s mandate. The organisation is also mulling to move the Sikkim High Court in this regard.
Meanwhile, the 12 SDF MLAs recently jumping ship has sparked off a massive outrage as a number of groups believe that these legislators got the people’s mandate because they were representatives of a regional party.
Close on the heels of a massive protest by the Sikkim Progressive Youth Forum against the MLAs, it is now the Sikkim Subject Committee who has decided to move the High court against the Ex-SDF MLAs.
10 MLAs had joined the BJP recently after quitting the SDF on August 13. Thereafter, 2 more SDF MLAs quit the party and joined the ruling SKM.
