Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday posted his resignation on Twitter. The four-page letter gives an insight into Rahul Gandhi’s decision on quitting the party post.

Rahul Gandhi made his resignation letter public, saying accountability was critical to the future growth of the party.

Gandhi has held himself accountable for the recent loss in the 2019 General Elections. Citing this very reason the Congress president has resigned from his party post.

He has been adamant about stepping down since May 25, after the Lok Sabha results, taking moral responsibility for the Congress party’s poor performance.

In the resignation letter, Gandhi said, “It is an honour for me to serve the Congress party, whose values and ideals have served as the lifeblood of our beautiful nation”. Taking responsibility for the party’s debacle in the Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi said, “Rebuilding the party requires hard decisions and numerous people will have to be made accountable for the failure of 2019. It would be unjust to hold others accountable but ignore my own responsibility as President of the party.”

After releasing the letter, Rahul Gandhi thanked all the party workers for their love and support.

Few excerpts from Rahul Gandhi’s resignation letter:

Rahul Gandhi stated that he has declined to nominate the next Congress President as suggested by his colleagues.

On Bharatiya Janata Party, Rahul wrote that he has no anger or hatred towards BJP but he resists BJP’s idea of India. He compares BJP’s ideas to his and states that these ideas are in direct conflict with his ideas.

On the defeat of Congress in the 2019 General Election, Rahul Gandhi states that the democracy of the country has been fundamentally weakened.
