Former Home Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh took charge as the Defence Minister on June 1, he was accorded a warm welcome by the chiefs of all 3 wings of the forces.
After taking charge, the former home minister held a meeting with Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa and newly appointed Navy chief Karambir Singh.
The Defence Secretary and several other senior officials of the ministry were also present at the meeting.
With Rajnath Singh starting his tenure as the Defence Minister the challenge that lies ahead is especially in terms of Pak sponsored terrorism, how he combats will only be measured if number of ceasefire violations reduce.
Rajnath was earlier the Home Minister and had faced many challenges in the form of protest over Citizenship Amendment Bill.
