Four boxers from the Northeast have brought laurels to the region by winning gold medals in the 2nd Open India Boxing Tournament held at Guwahati on Friday.

Assam’s Shiva Thapa and Jamuna Boro, Manipur’s MC Mary Kom and Sarita Devi won the finals in the tournament.

The six-time world champion Mary Kom (51kg) clinched gold in the second edition of the India Open International Boxing Tournament on May 24th, 2019.

The London Olympic bronze medallist brought all her experience to the fore to blow away the challenge of Vanlal Duati to script a 5-0 win.

On the other hand, Guwahati boy Shiva Thapa grabbed the 60kg gold in a revenge bout against 2018 champion Manish Kaushik. He won with 5-0 score.

Jamuna Boro earned her a perfect 5-0 win over Y. Sandhyarani, while for Sarita Devi, bagged her first gold medal in three years.
