Unhappy over the special arrangements for the Bru voters made by the Election Commission of India, the NGO Coordination Committee, a conglomerate of civil society organisations and student bodies in Mizoram has decided to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The NGO co-ordination committee has also decided to go on an indefinite strike from April 8.

President of the All NGO coordination committee Vanlalruata alleged that the Election Commission of India is not behaving as it should be while he pointed out that in 2018 Mizoram Assembly election, the Brus could cast their vote without facing problems in the state.

He also said that the NGO will not accept creating special polling stations in one place for all the refugees. Regarding enrollment of voters the NGO coordination committee president alleged that all applications from the Mizo society were opposed while Bru applications were approved.

In the 2018 Mizoram Assembly election, special arrangements had been made for Brus residing in transit camps to cast their vote in Kanhmun village along the Mizoram-Tripura border.
