Veteran politician and NPP MDC HS Shylla has resigned from the primary membership of the party citing the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the NPP-led Meghalaya government to the bills passed by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.

KHADC chief Shylla argued that he found it insulting to be in a party which is in power and yet unmoved to endorse the bills passed by the KHADC and has thus decided to quit.

Shylla, the brain behind the controversial Khasi Social Customs of Lineage, Bill, 2018 has been pushing is apparently miffed with the NPP led government for not backing the bill or making its stand clear on it. The district council had passed the controversial bill last year.

Apart from this, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Inner Line as adopted from the Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873) Regulation Bill, 2018 and Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Khasi Social Custom of Clan Administration) Bill, 2018 were passed by the district council last year under Shylla’s leadership.
