Assam Records Strong Fiscal Growth in FY 2024-25, Increases Capital Investment

Assam has recorded significant financial achievements in the fiscal year 2024-25, demonstrating strong fiscal discipline and efficient resource management. The state’s total expenditure stood at Rs. 1,44,617 crore, marking an 86% budget utilisation rate. This reflects a notable improvement compared to previous years.
In a comparative analysis, total expenditure in FY 2023-24 was Rs. 1,36,317 crore, with a budget utilisation of 80%. Looking further back, in FY 2020-21, the state spent Rs. 80,000 crore, utilising only 65% of the allocated budget. This consistent improvement showcases Assam’s growing financial strength.
A major highlight of the fiscal year was the increase in capital expenditure (Capex), which rose to Rs. 25,354 crore in FY 2024-25 from rs. 21,509 crore in the previous year. This boost underscores Assam’s focus on infrastructure development and long-term economic growth.
Additionally, Assam enters the new financial year with a healthy cash balance of Rs. 3,035 crore, providing a strong foundation for continued investments and financial stability.
Taking on X, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “we are delighted to enter the new financial year with a healthy cash balance of ₹3,035 crore, positioning us strongly for continued financial stability and strategic investments.”
