Another young boy from Meghalaya has died due to food poisoning in a school hostel in Karnataka that has been running illegally. This is the second death reported after over 30 students fell ill after consuming leftover contaminated food at the unauthorized hostel run by a private school in T Kagepura village, Mandya district, Karnataka.
Meghalaya CM confirmed the tragic news on his official X account and extended an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh to the family members of the deceased.
Taking to X, he wrote, “Pained to learn the passing of another young boy from Meghalaya in Karnataka. My deepest condolences to the family. Our Government will extend ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakhs to the next of kin and also take care of the medical expenditure of all the ailing children. Our team is in Karnataka to assist the families in this difficult time. Prayers for their recovery.”
Meghalaya government has already rushed a two-member official team to Karnataka to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths and ensure support to those hospitalised. The officials—Sub-Inspector of Schools and Sub-Divisional School Education Officer P. Sunn, along with District MIS, PM-POSHAN, Shillong, and R. Kharsyntiew—are conducting the inquiry.
