Mahakumbh Stampede: Assam Businessman Neeti Ranjan Paul Dead

Reports indicate that a stampede-like situation erupted early on Wednesday after barriers broke, causing chaos among the devotees.
69-year-old Neeti Ranjan Paul, a businessman from Hailakandi, Assam, is among those killed in a stampede that happened early Wednesday morning.
The incident, which took place at around 1 am today, is part of a larger catastrophe where over 10 people are feared dead.
Neeti Ranjan Paul had traveled to the Kumbh Mela on January 26.
Reports indicate that a stampede-like situation erupted early on Wednesday after barriers broke, causing chaos among the devotees. Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana reassured the public that while injuries were sustained, the situation was under control and the injured were receiving necessary medical treatment. She emphasized that the incident was not deemed serious despite the distressing events.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, reviewed the situation and asked the CM to take immediate steps to assist the people at Maha Kumbh.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also assured the public of all necessary assistance.
According to reports, nearly 5 crore people arrived for the holy dip till yesterday.
