Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Meets Noel Tata, Anand Mahindra, Pitches Assam as an Investment Hub, Invites them to Advantage Assam 2.0

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, on the second day of his Mumbai tour yesterday, ahead of Advantage Assam 2.0 Global Investors’ Summit next month, met Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, and his son Neville Tata and Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra and pitched Assam as a favourable investment destination. The CM also invited the industry leaders to the Global Investors’ Summit to be held on February 24-25 in Guwahati.

During his meeting with the Tatas, Dr. Sarma expressed gratitude for the Trusts’ contributions to Assam’s development.

The Chief Minister also met Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, over lunch. Highlighting Mahindra’s passion for industrialization, Dr. Sarma expressed his eagerness to partner with the Mahindra Group to accelerate Assam’s industrial development. He extended a personal invitation to Mahindra for the summit, underlining its significance in transforming Assam into an investment hub.

In another engagement, Dr. Sarma met S.N. Subramanyam, CEO of L&T, and discussed ongoing and future infrastructure projects in Assam. Stressing the state’s attractiveness for infrastructure companies, Dr. Sarma proposed L&T’s collaboration in adopting sustainable, cutting-edge construction technologies to support Assam’s growth story.

The Chief Minister also held discussions with BK Goenka, Chairman of Welspun Group, where he outlined Assam’s vast potential in heavy industries and the textile sector. Dr. Sarma emphasised the state government’s robust investment plans and invited Goenka to explore these opportunities at the summit.

Additionally, Dr. Sarma met HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan on Saturday to deliberate on formalising Assam’s economy through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) systems and strengthening the state’s banking ecosystem. He highlighted Assam’s skilled workforce and invited HDFC Bank to collaborate on various state initiatives, encouraging their participation in the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit.

In a move to boost Assam’s tea industry, Dr. Sarma met with Hindustan Unilever executives, including Rohit Jawa, Dev Bajpai, and Yogesh Mishra. Discussions centered on expanding the group’s footprint in Assam and enhancing investment in the tea sector. He extended a personal invitation to Hindustan Unilever to be part of the summit and explore new opportunities.

Dr. Sarma also engaged with Rudra Chatterjee, MD of Luxmi Tea, inviting the company to the summit and stressing the potential for growth in Assam’s tea industry. Similarly, the Chief Minister met Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Online, to discuss opportunities in infrastructure, power, and defense sectors. He assured the state’s commitment to supporting Adani Group’s expansion plans.

The Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit is poised to showcase the state’s potential as an investment destination, with Chief Minister Dr. Sarma spearheading efforts to attract top-tier industry players to the event.
