Ajay Kumar Bhalla, former Union Home Secretary, was sworn in as the Governor of Manipur on Friday. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, Justice D Krishnakumar at a solemn ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
Bhalla succeeds Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who had been serving as the Governor-in-charge of Manipur since July last year. The swearing in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh, council of ministers, Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, MLAs, Congress Legislature Party leader Okram Ibobi Singh, and Manipur Congress president, MLA Keisham Meghachandra Singh.

He also highlighted his optimism about Bhalla’s leadership. “I am confident that his guidance and leadership will further strengthen the development, harmony, and progress of our state,” N. Biren Singh added.
Ajay Bhalla’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Manipur, as the state continues to grapple with ethnic conflicts between Meetei and Kuki since May 3, 2023.
