‘Cowardly And Unprovoked Attack On Innocent Lives, An Assault On Peace’: Manipur CM Condemns Firing By Kuki Militants In Imphal East

“This cowardly and unprovoked attack on innocent lives is an assault on peace and harmony,” CM N Biren Singh said.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has condemned the fresh firing by Kuki militants at Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi in Imphal East, which injured civilians and security personnel on Friday, and termed it as a “cowardly” act.
The Chief Minister asked the central forces and the state police to work with proper coordination during such a situation.
Taking to X, the Chief Minister said, “Strongly condemn the indiscriminate firing by Kuki militants at Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi in Imphal East, which injured civilians and security personnel. This cowardly and unprovoked attack on innocent lives is an assault on peace and harmony.”
“Adequate security personnel have been rushed to the affected areas.The injured are receiving necessary medical assistance, and the government calls for calm and unity in the face of such challenges. Central forces and state police should have proper coordination and understanding when dealing with such situations”, CM added.
As per inputs, the armed men from the hilltop started firing indiscriminately and hurling bombs around 11.00 am in Sanasabi village and adjacent areas, forcing security personnel to retaliate, leading to a fierce encounter.
The two were injured in the gunfight in Sanasabi village. The policeman was hit on his left shoulder and was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences. Another village volunteer, who sustained minor injury to his hand, was rushed to a private hospital.
Sanasabi, located on the periphery of Kangpokpi, is part of a series of areas in Imphal East that border Kangpokpi District. Earlier attacks had already occurred in Sinam Kom, Thamnapokpi, Yaingangpokpi, and Sabungkhok Khunou.
It should be mentioned that the latest round of gun fights in Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts and adjoining areas started on Christmas Eve and the situation remains grim.
