A horrific video has surfaced online where a rare turtle can be seen burnt alive on the flames of a gas burner.
The video, reportedly from Assam’s Chirang district was posted on Facebook on a page titled Badamale Narzary.
The horrific visuals show a turtle struggling with pain and horror as it is put upside down over the flames of a gas burner as two persons can be heard conversing.
The video has since then gone viral and has evoked sharp reactions from animal lovers who are calling for action against the culprits.
Chirang Forest Department officer Kunjan Basumatary said a strict investigation will be conducted against the person who released the video.
The turtles and tortoises are banned from hunting and consumption under the Wildlife Preservation act and any indulgence in hunting or sale of turtle meat is a punishable offence.
